for a for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a wealthy person to enter the kingdom of heaven, why (if you’re Christian) don’t you give all your cash away

I'll tell you why - because many Christians do not take Jesus seriously enough but pretend its ok for them to be stinking rich but still keep well in with the almighty. Jesus said you can not serve God and money and some are still trying to prove him wrong. If they gave away everything but that which they needed to live a very modest lifestyle, the church would have enough to do things it needed to do and the poor and the hungry would be better provided for and there would be a better witness provided for non-believers.

Heck, Jesus ranted against the sin of greed far more than against sexual sins and yet many believers in the Western World choose to ignore his words on the former and go all out on his words on the latter. I wonder why?

Oh I am not well paid and still give to the genuinely poor and needy while supporting my own family - so i do give my cash away.

This is believed to be a mis-translation. There are several alternatives...

1) The eye of a needle is actually a place - an archway that was quite small, making it difficult for a camel to get through. Although a popular view on this, it's not actually supported by evidence.

2) The word 'camel' is an incorrect translation and it should be replaced with the word 'rope'. This makes considerably more sense - a rope through the eye of a needle is a better phrase and still gives the idea of being very difficult indeed.

Most wealthy people back then (and today) loved money more than God.

Example? Tax collectors. Pharisees. Roman Emperors

Oh, and fruitcake just hit the nail on the head.

It is all God's money but He does not ask us to give all of it out.

My church teaches that the tithe is 10% and the offerings are above the tithe. They also asks us to save 10%for ourselves. And live wisely on 80% of your income. So it is 10-10-80 plan.

You can do much better with 90% of your income with God's blessings than with 100% of your income of your own. : )

The original translation was 'For an elephant to shag a flea?' but it was thought too vulgar. Today, Heaven welcomes everyone, rich and poor because so few people make it.

If you read the verses following that one you would know the disciples asked Jesus, "Who then can be saved?". And Jesus replied, "With God all things are possible".
