I found out today that I am allergic to cats AND dogs. First of all, it didn't surprise me about the cats because I have trouble breathing in homes where cats are kept as pets.

However, I don't feel anything when I'm around dogs. Still, the DR says to avoid them. Sometime in the future, I'd love to have a dog (not now, though) since I've never had one before in my life.

Are allergy shots worth it? The DR says I might be a good candidate for them. I really don't care for cats that much but I'm a total dog person so would allergy shots be worth it in the long run?

allergies could be dangerous. it could cause bronchospasms and close your airway incase of severe reactions. shots will definitely help and they're worth it.

I am allergic to cats, dogs, pollen, dust mites, molds, grasses, and many trees and plants.

I personally took allergy shots for 5 years. After the 5th year, I was pronounced "cured" and the shots were discontinued as the histamine levels in my blood were at normal levels.

After 2 years of no allergy shots, all of my allergies returned and are as bad as they ever were before the shots.

Every person responds to the shots differently, your experience may turn out to be more positive than my own.

i used to suffer horribly from allergies .shots are not fun and i did them reg. for approx.2 years in a progressive series.starting 2x weekly and ending with 1x monthly.this was 25 years ago so it may be easier now but i have no regrets. I still have a few symptoms but not like before when i had to live like the bubble boy for 9 mo.s out of the year and i can live with dogs and cats,i mean really! it was worth it.
