You have to go to the doctor. First, you have to have them test the skin in question by slicing some off and doing a biopsy in the lab. This test is not painful because they will numb the area first. Youll get the results a week or so later. Thats how you know if you have it. Next, if the test comes back positive, youll have to go back in, and they will remove all of the skin within and inch or two around the affected area. They will also assess if it has spread to any other parts of your body. If it has not then you are good to go. If it has, they will decide what measures to take from there

you have to get checked out by an oncologist (cancer doctor.) Usually if you have a mole that isn't a normal color or is growing or wasnt there before. The doctor will want to do a biopsy of the growth (they will take a piece of it off and take it in for tests) Usually they will just remove the growth right away and then they can tell if it is cancerous. If it isn't, then you had a free mole removed but if it is, you have to go through chemo and stuff.

malignant melanoma is a serious diagnosis. you definately need to ge to a dermatologist to have it biopsied, if it comes back proven melanoma your derm will excise it leaving a surrounding margin of about 1-2cm to make sure they got it all. if the size depth and Clarks level are to great they will then refer you to a general surgeon for removal. you will also have to get your lymph nodes checked to rule out metasis (spreading).
