Lately I have been kind of down, and I heard that going out to help others makes you feel much better about yourself, so I really want to help, but I don't know where to start, I am already in my community helping club at school, but i want to help more!!!

You sound like a really great kid!

Most towns and cities have a volunteer bureau where you can find out about all the things needed to be helped with in your community. I am sure you could find out by calling your city hall or even your folks. If you were my kid, I would be proud to help you!

There is always the ASPCA where people are needed to walk and help with the animals.

There is always a food kitchen where help is needed.

There are always people who need help in the world. Perhaps organizing a garage sale for the spring to raise funds for some organization that you would like to help. This way you could spread the goodness and help others to get gold stars in heaven by volunteering too! I am fond of Oprah's Angels because she meets the contributions dollar for dollar. There are still so many victims of Katrina in America.

In this world, there are, alas, a great many projects that need help to make things better.

Yes, you are so right, helping others is a wonderful cure for the blahs and the blues. It sure works for me. I volunteer at a local environmental organization. It is my choice to do what I can close to home.

Good luck! Kiddo, you do your family and your community proud.

Wow! If you are in a community helping club that is already more than a LOT of people do. I would go for volenteering or something like that. Find a retirement home and go visit with the old folks. They usually have a LOT to say. They are also very interesting. Another thing you could do it to go through your clothes and see what you don't wear anymore. Then gather that, wash it, and then give it to cathlic charities. Just to see the look on there face will make you smile!

If 10% of the average $907 that Americans spent on Christmas gifts went to children in need, 42 million children could be helped for an entire year according to statistics provided to me during an interview with World Vision.

This year, I conducted an experiment, and asked for donations to World Vision and Heifer.org instead of Christmas gifts. Many folks simply chose to give me gifts anyway, but many did make donations instead, resulting in $137 going to these charities.

I also have a website where I sell art to support these two Christian organizations. The next time you need art for your walls, please consider my website. My personal favorite of my own work is Sunset over Florence12. Recently my aunt (an amateur photographer) and a friend have donated some of their work for this charitable cause, as well. If you know artists who might wish to join this charity model, please send them my way.

There is a set of 6 world maps on my art for charity website that represents the state of our world in terms of poverty, hunger, disease, education availability of electricity and longevity. You can get a full sized copy for your office or child from my website.

try helping out your mates.....sometimes you dont realise the ppl closest to you are the ones who need help!.....

other than that i would recommend visiting homeless shelters and hospices and doing general community and social work...

made me realise that my problems are practically non existant compared to so many other people....it really brings you down to earth and i think it helps to keep things in perspective.

if you arent feeling good for a long time though make sure you are not suffering from depression or S.A.D . Make sure u go to the Doctor if yur down days and more than your up days...

take care and good luck!

Don't help people to make yourself feel better. That is horrible reason. Help people because you care and want to not to make yourself feel better.
