Would all professing atheist please describe to me what it means to be atheist without telling me what it is not. I would like to get a straight forward understanding of what people think or mean when they say they are an atheist.

Please, if you are not an atheist do not try to answer this. If you are please comment on any previous postings. I avoid sermons so be concise and to the point. Thank you.

if you got the wisdom to learn to know the truth don't have to express any belief of any kind anymore. all i do is search for true answer separating false senses from my body. basing my judgement on reality, not on any writtings or hearsay or religion.
there is no right or wrong ,
only true and false
. it doesn't matter what you say or think truth will always remain.
i don't care much of anything or anyone but my life or my bloodline seeing to stay forever.
LIFE IS THE ONLY ONE THAT MATTERS.

"Atheism is an admission of the obvious. Atheism is nothing more than the noises reasonable people make in the presence of injustified religious beliefs. An atheist believes that the single murder of a single little girl casts doubt on the idea of a benevolent god." Sam Harris is 'Letters to a Christian Nation'

Atheists believe there is no god or gods. There is no evidence for gods, none whatsoever, and they apply the same rules for no evidence as they do for dragons, unicorns, fairies and ghosts.

In most cases, an atheist will say that if someone can present them with a single piece of unequivocal evidence of supernatural origins, that cannot be explained by ANY physical laws whatever, they'll believe. I would. I'm still waiting.

i am athiest and what i mean by that is that i do not rely on false hope of being "saved" or "forgiven" or "miracles" and i know that people are people and if they know right from wrong, thats all they need. i also dont get my hopes up when someone gets a terminal disease like some people who actually think god will cure them. i know better.

Doesn't mean anything except that I live my life not depending on a god to be there to "fix" my life. Whatever happens in my life is of my own doing...right or wrong. I know the "rules" and laws and I don't need a 2000 yr old book to tell me how to live.

it means i believe that the divine is too complex and too complete to be personified into a deity/supreme being.
