NON-PRIOR SERVICE

REQUIREMENTS

Age and Education
To qualify, you must be between the ages of 18 and 39 and have a high school diploma, although, in some instances, GED certificates can be accepted.

Health and Height
To gain entrance, you must pass a physical exam. The height requirement for both men and women is between 60 and 80 inches.

Citizenship
To join, you must be a U.S. citizen or a legal immigrant currently living in the United States with a valid visa or Green Card. The Navy Reserve cannot assist in the immigration process. To enlist, you must legally immigrate first, and then apply once you are living in the U.S. The expiration date on your visa or Green Card must be sufficient to include your entire term of enlistment. As a non-citizen, you will not be allowed to reenlist beyond your first term of service, unless you first become a U.S. citizen. To become a commissioned Officer in the Navy Reserve, you must be a native or naturalized U.S. citizen.

ACTIVE DUTY / PRIOR SERVICE

The Navy Reserve offers individuals the opportunity to proudly serve their nation part-time as they secure brighter futures for themselves. If you are a Navy veteran or a veteran from another military branch, the Navy Reserve allows you to advance your civilian life and career as you reconnect or stay connected to military life. If you have never served before, the Navy Reserve lets you experience the pride of protecting your nation as you enjoy many military benefits and advantages.

Basic Service Requirements
As a military veteran, you can join for periods ranging from two to six years and you can extend your Navy Reserve contract up to an additional four years. For individuals with no prior military service, an initial eight-year commitment is required.

Traditional service requires a minimum of one weekend a month drilling and two weeks of Annual Training. However, for those who qualify, flexible drilling options are available, including serving on weekdays or fulfilling your annual commitment in one single, extended mission. For more information, contact a Navy Reserve Recruiter.

The best way to find that out is to ask the recruiter, they have all the facts and figures at their disposal. Too many possible wrong answers in this forum.
