I am not against it per se, but I am against organized or individual bigotry towards others based upon their personal religious beliefs or the supposed right way to believe. I was enlightened finally around age 16 that all religions were hoaxes, prior to that I was firmly enmeshed within a church structure, went to church, fervently believed, attended summer church camps, a picture perfect christian. Then one day after hearing a 3rd different interpretation of some bible verses, none of which I concurred with as being even remotely possible, I finally realized it was all a bunch of hooey. The outright discrepancies of the bible are just ignored, as are the contridictions found throughout. We see symbolic angels with chicken feathered wings everywhere, but interestingly angels don't have wings in the bible. Most everything that modern christianity stands for today is made up by religious zealots over the past few hundred years.

I am speaking on behalf of myself and a few of my friends when I say that what I despise is the organised, corporate churches that are into control and domination. They are even infiltrating and influencing politics in this country (Australia). They profess humbleness and meekness yet are always blowing their trumpets loud enough for everyone to hear! A combination of arrogance and ignorance which, when mixed with their money and power, is a dangerous concoction. If all I knew about churches was the good that they did for humanity and the environment, then I would be a bit more pre-disposed towards them. They do not practice the same tolerance that they desire either.

I don;t have anything against Christianity per se, but some Christians surely give it a bad name. Two thousand years of intolerance isn't a good way to convert people, you know.

Religion is fine if the people don't push their beliefs onto others. No one knows which, if any, religion is right. Some seem to think that they 'know' but that's hogwash.

The reason I disagree with religion is because of the many christians in this country trying to force their beliefs into laws. I don't care what you do on your own time. Pray to as many gods as you want or if you want to worship an animal, go right ahead but keep your views out of government.

I'm fine with Christians that know to keep their religion to themselves. Its the Christians that try to force their religion on other people in the form of law or harassment that I have a problem with.

religion served a purpose to people who lived long ago who couldn't know any better. Now through science, people no longer need rely on those old beliefs. Some have a harder time letting go than others.

Yes I do not like Christianity. I am of the opinion that Christianity is a mediocre idea gone horribly, horribly wrong. Many of its fundamental teachings strike me as innately harmful and damaging; its followers tend to be close-minded and bigoted; and its theology is flawed. To be fair, it shares several of these qualities with other monotheistic religions. Also to be fair, as people will no doubt race to inform me, Christianity does have adherents who aren't quite as warped as their religion tends to be. However, in general, I have found Christianity to be severely lacking in its spirituality, social, and ethical teachings; and Christians to be largely arrogant and rude.

To quote one 'Kat': "Well people who are against Christianity or even religion in general seriously lack common sense."

The ones who think for themselves and look for proof behind situations rather than superstitions are definitely the ones lacking common sense.

Religion is responsible for the vast majority of human conflict.

Theists, especially christians, try to control and restrict us based on their views. If all christians stop crusading against science, culture, art, sex and sexuality, religious freedom and such, and stop telling everybody else they're going to be tortured throughout eternity unless they join you, I assure you that you won't encounter nearly as much hostility.

Just reading the replies so far demonstrates my point.

Read The God Delusion if you want to understand how harmful religion has been to the world (email me if you don't have a copy handy).
