Like The Truth, religion interests me and I wouldn't find an 'Atheism' section nearly as attractive!
While I accept that one liners just saying 'god is a lie' are both rude and pointless, I personally like to try a bit harder. My aim in answering is to add to the debate in an interesting and helpful way. Unless the question is drivel of course, in which case I reserve the right to be silly!
And as for belief, do you really need to believe in god to have views on "Should we ban the muslim religion?" or "Was Jesus A good bloke?" I don't think so.
Surely if nobody challenged anyone else's views and everyone just answered 'yes I agree, praise the Lord!' it would be pretty boring here, wouldn't it? But I'm afraid a bit of chaff with your wheat is the price you have to pay for a bit of education.
If you just want people with similar views surely that's what Church is for?

This is not a section for the religious. It is a section on religion (and spirituality). I am an atheist but religion interests me. I have as much right as you to be here.
And for the record I don't care or not care about God. For the same reason Hindus don't care or not care. We don't believe in your god. How can you care about something you don't believe in? The difference between the Hindu and the atheist is that the atheist doesn't believe in any gods.
But not caring about gods doesn't mean we don't have anything to say or to ask.
My view is that this section is to debate religion and spirituality. Therefore anybody with an interest in this, should be here. That is why I am here. I find the Christian religion in particular fascinating. My interest isn't religious exactly, it is that I have read much of the bible and am interested in the interpretations. And it's obviously an area with some considerable arguments between religions and between viewpoints within them. To me this is fascinating and I see no reason why I should not be part of the debate, even if I'm not affected by them.
To go further, if this section is about religion, then it should be good to have all sides to the debate present. Otherwise, why have a religious section at all? Why not have a section each for the various religions. Or better still, for their various factions?
I don't understand why you'd want to remove your critics from the debate. Through debate you learn. Maybe your views will change, perhaps bringing you a better understanding of your religion (what you'd probably call bringing you closer to God).
If there was an atheist section, I'd not go there. Although an atheist, atheism itself has no interest to me. I already understand it and if only atheists were there, I'd not be challenged on my viewpoints.
And to end with a comment in the same tone as your question - I would suggest that if you don't like atheists having a voice here, maybe you should go elsewhere...

You religious types have been pushing your views and beliefs on the world for hundreds of years, even to those who don't believe. Now athiests are questioning it, you don't like it. Well tough s**t!
The world is fed up of the lies, hatred, fairy tales spread by religion and the amount of misery that it has spread on humanity. Thankfully, religion is now a dying concept and atheists won't have to question these myths for much longer!

Do you also think people without children should be banned from answering parenting questions?
One thing you don't understand is that not everyone on this site goes to just one category.
R&S questions show up on home pages, and at the bottom of pages.
The other thing you don't understand is that if you don't want to read a variety of points of view, then you don't belong on this site.

It would not stop, it is a good conversation stater in the cyber world, and it would not keep out the Christian from tellling them that they are going to hell, it more exciting this way, and a bit annoying at the same time

I'm atheist. I'm Buddhist. I don't tell people I don't care about god. I've studied religions in great detail and answer questions without bias. Do you see how rude your commentary is?

We find it sad that people would still rather hide behind blind faith than think for themselves. Most religions feel equal confidence that they are right, so the only reason anyone takes up any certain religion is the choice and influence of others.

I'm glad there are many people of different beliefs here. It would be boring if everyone just kept agreeing, there wouldn't be any questions. The only thing that aggravates me is atheists usually do a better job of expressing their beliefs. Maybe one of us will be able to inspire them one day.
May God Bless you.

Does that mean that people can only comment on the Literature section if they're daft enough to believe Romeo and Juliet were real people?

How do you propose to keep them off this or any other forum? If you have the programming chops for that, maybe you should e-mail Yahoo! and ask if they have any job openings.
