I don't think that you are treated like celebrities but with the respect you deserve for doing a job that so many of us can't do. You are appreciated for your dedication to the protection of your fellow countrymen and women. I try to do what I can to show my support whenever possible as many others do. Hopefully it will take away the sting of the news reports you see of those protesting the work you are doing in Iraq. If you weren't there doing such a good job, the terrorists would be able to attack us within our own boundaries. I for one appreciate the work you do and get reports from my brother, who is in Iraq, about the good work you are doing with the civilian population that never makes the news reports. Keep up the good work and know you are all in my prayers daily.

Yes, I do believe that you should be treated better than celebrities. My son is in the military and is currently serving in Iraq somewhere. I am proud of all of our military. Yes you do your job, but how many of us can say that we lay our lives down on the line every day. I feel the same way about Policemen and Firemen as well, but more so about soldiers. So for us that want to do something for you. Just say, "Thanks I'm glad to be appreciated and remembered", when someone does something nice for you. And thank you so very much for your service.

I appreciate my freedom and the people who defend it for me a lot more than I appreciate people like Britney Spears and Anna Nicole Smith, so yes, to me everyone who honorably serves in the US military is someone to be treated with the greatest respect.
I noticed "shotgun" , the guy that says US soldiers are like Charles Manson, won't let people email him. He makes stupid slanderous charges and can't take the heat of people telling him how they feel about him. He's typical of the leftists who hate the people who protect his right to express his opinion. He spouts off yet refuses to listen. A real enemy of the freedom he cherishes, yet he knows his freedom is safe as long as the US military is there for him.

Eat it up know while you can. It doesn't take much for the American people to change their tune. I spent 6 years in the military and never had anyone so much as mutter a word of thanks let alone buy me dinner. At least not strangers. We would have events at VFW's or American Legions where we were treated great but not normally. Give it two years and people will be back to their old ways of not really caring. The american public is too fickle.

We treat all of the WRONG people like celebrities.
Who else deserves to be treated like celebrities? The publicity sluts in Hollywood? The power brokers in Washington? Soldiers are some of the only heroes left in our society, the only men and women who truly risk their lives to protect ours.
You guys deserve all of the praise and veneration you receive!

It is a way people can show they are grateful for what you do.
They are just afraid of all the negative news they get about those who serve they want you to know that people do care about you despite what the media is telling us.
We believe you do serve with honor and deserve respect far more than Hollywood celebrities get.

You are pretty young, but ask someone who was in WW II and you will find that people did the same for those soldiers also. I think people remember Vietnam and how badly the soldiers were treated when they came home. It was shameful for citizens to treat the men and women who were doing what their country told them to do to treat them with such disrespect. So, even though people may not agree with the war in Iraq, they realize that there are men and women giving their lives for this war. I know when I see someone in uniform I have a soft place in my heart for them and what they are doing for our country and for the people of Iraq. So enjoy your 15 minutes of fame and know that the citizens of this country appreciate what you and your fellow soldiers are doing, even if we don't really agree with the war.

I would pay for your meal. You risk everything by being in the military. No matter what your specific job or MOS may be, these days you are likely to experience a tour of duty in a combat zone. Even though I think the war is misguided/misdirected you may end up puting your life on the line so that I have the choice to pay for your meal. I appreciate it. I hope to do the same one day.

No I don't think that they should be treated as celebrities, but I do think they should get the respect they deserve. No matter what their actual job, loading trucks, or front line action. Every person in uniform is doing a job for me helping to protect me and my family. I will show them respect as long as they don't act like jerks (few and far between) and show my appreciation by buying them a meal or drink or even just saying THANKS.
