It's commonly called Sod's law. We have a prayer in our 12 step group. It goes:- God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference. I find it helpful in situations like yours. x

As a Territory sales manager this has happened loads of times and I have often put it down to Sod's law.
However having taken a serious inward look at myself i realised there was only one reason.I was always leaving just a few minutes later than I wanted to and if truth were known the time I planned to leave was never realistic.
I now firmly believe that meeting appointments requires proper planning and organisation leaving in good time with a margin for a rest to compose oneself at the other end.Since this incredible revelation, my journeys have all been relaxed and trouble free.

It's because people can't drive when it rains a bit (oooh it's a bit wet, I might skid and crash and die, better do 10mph) or when someone else has crashed (oooh someone's had a crash. I know I shouldn't but I'll slow down to have a look and see if they are dead). Also when a traffic light hits green most people at the start of the queue think. Ooh it's green. Better put it in first gear then. Why is the person behind me so close to my bumper. Oooh I can't take the stress, I think I might crash. It's because most people who drive are complete Jessie's

It's Sod's Law, AKA Murphy's Law, where everything that can go wrong usually does.
