well, i am still not sure how it works because my name is on the check and so is my guardians name.. but ive heard from teachers at school that some of that money should be mine except the amount it takes to take care of me and my sister. since they have became my guardians tho they have been buying stuff like crazy... they really are upgrading and Im not sure if thats legal or not... im not gonna try to scam them for money but i dont want my moms money being used for personal pleasure

They are probably getting the money because you are still a minor. You do have to be 18 & in school to get your money, but you can still get it while you are in college. Check this out online at the Social Security site (www.ssa.gov). You are looking for info on survivors benefits.

My sister's guardian never gave her any money either.

Because my Mom was still around, And because I graduated at 17, she turned my checks over to me to help with college costs. I think once you are 18, you can have them switched to your name.

Hope this helps!

If the money was spent on your actual expenses and support then the guardian uses it for that purpose. The SSI benefits are not meant to be used for frivilous expenses. Once you reach the legal age in your state then you should get the checks to use as you will.

UPDATE

Yes if you continue your education the checks should continue

Since you are a minor, they money is paid to your legal guardian. It's intended to provide for your care and support, not as mad money for your pocket.

If the other kid's guardian has directed Social Security to make the payments directly to him, that's their call. And none of your concern.

you cannot get the money until your 18. and then you still have to be in high school because after you graduate, or turn 18, what ever comes second, the money stops.

why should you.. you are cared for...

move out and take care of yourself..if you want your check--soon you'll be 18 and then--there will be nothing--.
then work...
