It was a civil arrest and there were no charges filed. It was for assault and battery, but I have writter's block and I am not sure how to word it since I don't want to descrive step by step the whole deal since when they get the police report they will see it and I don't want to be off the official police report. I am sure that the person who made the claim was upset at me for something else and that was the only way to get me. I was arrested and detained, but never charged for anything. I tried to get the police report, but I would have to get a lawyer and I am not sure if that will work. Now I need some a good way to put it together, since I am writting to an specific government department and not to an individual as I have done it on the past. I neet some good adjetives, nouns that go smoothly with out any specific details.

File a FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) request at the agency where the report was filed (ie, the agency that arrested/detained you) and they will provide you with a copy. No attorney needed. You may pay 5 or 10 bucks for the report but it beats about $1000 having an attorney do the same thing.

You do not need a lawyer to get the police report from 5 years ago concerning your arrest. Go to the PD where you were arrested ask for the report. You will likely have to pay for it. It usually isn't much. Then, you will have the report to go on. Just be honest in whatever it is you are writing this for.

Pretty simple.. just say arrested for so and so on(date) no charges or conviction.. You are dealing with a government agency.. 1 they dont wanna hear a broadway play production 2 they dont really care as they have all they information anyway if they want it.. Kindda odd they would even ask you to explain, they generally only ask for lists and stuff on convistions not arrests.. anybody can be arrested at any time.. lawdy knows I've had my share.. and I used to work for DoD as a civilian...

Sometimes the best explanation is no explanation at all... whats to explane there was no charge or conviction accorrding to what you said...

My advice is to write, "will discuss at interview". Any other contrived explanation will sound lame and present you in a light of trying to justify, rationalize, and minimize the incident. At interview, be straight forward, take responsibility for your part in the incident, and explain what steps you have taken to assure similar incidents do not reoccur in the future.
