Why does Nancy Pelosi need a permenant military escort and a 757?

The office of Speaker of the House was issued a small private plane owned by the Department of Defense on the grounds that they are 3rd in line for the presidency.

Nancy says it ain't big enough, she wants the biggest plane the military has for civilian transport, a Boeing 757.

ttpawpaw: By "civilian transport", I'm drawing a distinction to "military transport" which is the job of the DOD. The plane now in use by the Speaker of the House was issued to Speaker Hastert after 9-11. Before that time, they didn't have an aircraft for personal use.

I don't have anything against Nancy, really. She was elected fair and square and was in line for her position. I just find it interesting that she wants extravagances. Anything she says in the future about tax increases, cutting funds to the military and ciritizing big business will draw today's story back out into the spotlight. Personally, this could be the story that decapitates her.

Personally, I think that all government officials including, senators, congressmen and women, should live within their salary. Stop giving themselves raises while the rest of America, is living off our hard earned wages !!! I can't see a reason Nancy Pelosi, or any member of congress, or the senate, should have a huge plane unless they can show a true need for one. Excess has got to stop, especially in the Washington !!!

One, that is not civilian transport by any stretch. Speaker of the House is accorded certain privillages, the plane and escorts. They do have 747, and 767 in srrvice too, both are bigger than the 757 you are quoteing.

She might be a butt head for wanting the most she can get, but the law says she can have it so go suck an egg.

i imagine Pelosi should be applauded for going to Afghanistan because Bush looks to have forgotten that that's the authentic conflict the front on the conflict on terror.
