when i was at school i used to lock myself away n my room and revise, after half a hour or so, pop down to make a cuppa, drfink it with a little music on in the background, then knuckle back into my revision with the radio off for my concentration.

trying to revise in front of the tv is a big mistake...no concentration

In my day, exams were involved a three-hour ****-or-bust affair with no course work being taken into account. This meant that the psychological pressures were huge but it suited me because I was always a terrible term student in all subjects but could handle the pressure.

There is no doubt that if you don't know your stuff, you are going to fail but for the type of exam that prevailed back then, I reckoned that handiling the pressure was fifty percent of success. For a start, I stopped revising about one week before the exam. The last thing you want to do is to cram right up to the final minutes; this will only teach you how much you don't know which is unsettling. Go into the exam room with an empty head and avoid those characters hanging around outside "testing" each other.

It will all come back to you when you turn your paper over. It is worth waiting a couple of minutes for that someone who always seems to crack completely and storm out of the examination room without so much as writing their name on the paper. They always seem to hang around until the end when they expect to be treated as heroes by their compatriots but I regard them as a psychological filip.

Pack everything you need into a briefcase the night before so that you don't unsettle yourself by hunting around for things. Remember to include chewing gum and a watch.

Don't let the paper come as a big surprise; get sight of a few beforehand and familiarise yourself with the layout. Make sure you know how many questions you have to answer and allocate an equal amunt of time to answer each. Do not dwell on a question just because you know something about it.

Well, it worked for me.....

I would buy a rapid reading course book and would revise as fast as possible. These methods really work and you even improve the percentage of things you retain and you read 2, 3 times faster than usual, if not more much more. I had good results when I started with this book an just regret not doing it earlier when I needed to revise for my exams
