Basic to having purpose in our lives is recognition for the Source or life. Frustrations results from a life course that conflicts with the Creator's requirements and his guidelines for happiness.
We find the greatest happiness possible now and our lives take on richness of meaning when we apply Bible principles and put first the doing of God's will.

In the beginning there was only God. God desired to better know himself through experience. God then divided into an infinite number of individual personalties that they may interact with each other and through this interaction explore all aspects of the Divine.
You are an individual manifestation of God himself. Your purpose is simply to be. To make choices in your life and experience the effects of those choices.
As you get better at understanding this, you will realize that God-like choices that radiate the Love of the infinite Creator bring you closer to Him. Un-god-like choices based in fear, greed, hate and intolerance remove you further from Him.
Physical life is a mechanism for the evolution of your soul as you learn to radiate the Love of the Creator and find your way back to Him. However, no condition is laid on you and you may take as long as you wish on your path back to the Creator. God can and will wait for you for eternity until he has the chance to welcome you back into his loving arms as a loving parent welcomes a long-wandering child.
That is the meaning of life and your purpose here. Your success in this journey is guaranteed. Nobody gets lost on their path back to the Creator and no souls get left behind. How long you take is up to you.

God's not in the picture for me.
I will prove that I am everything my father could never become, a caring person who is not a danger to his family. I will be a great dad and support my children to the day I die. Every other goal in my life comes second.

There is no meaning to life. life is inherently meaningless, so you can decide meaning for yourself.
And you shouldn't put others before yourself, meaning you shouldn't do things that you don't want to do because other people want you to do them...only if you want to do something should you do it for another person..
I didn't explain that well, read Conversations With God, it gets explained a lot better there.
