It was a thrilling opportunity to meet the author of the book because we had been reading the book all semester.
People are interesting to watch because people use body language to express themselves.

She plans to marry her childhood sweetheart, and she has known him since they were five years old.

Students will be placed on probation if their grade point average falls below 2.0.

Laser beams were first predicated in science fiction stores 75 years ago, and now laser beams are useful in both medicine and industry.

An antecedent is a word, where a pronoun refers to this word.

When I take a vacation, I like to go to a place where there are no phones, computers, or televisions. (it is improper to put "there" again at the end of the sentence for grammatical reasons.)

Basically, when you approach combining sentences like this, ask yourself whether you can use a preposition. Prepositions can also help you join sentences. Commas are used to separate independant clauses in all situations where the word "and" is the only thing added between the two clauses.

1. It was a thrilling experience to meet the author of the book that we had been reading all semester.

Replace the noun in the adjective clause that is being described in the independent clause with a relative pronoun. Place the adjective clause next to the noun in the independent clause.

2. People who use body language to express themselves.are interesting to watch.

3. She plans to marry her childhood sweetheart whom she has known since they were five years old.

Use "whom" in this sentence because it is the direct object of the adjective clause.

4. Students whose grade point averages fall below 2.0
will be placed on probation.

Use "whose" because it is used as a possesive.

7. When I take a vacation, I like to go to a place where there are no phones, computers or televisions.

You should be able to figure the rest out.
