A bit annoyed at a news report about friendly fire, this bloke from Idaho (defending the pilot) said that Britain sucked it thumb during World War 2. Yeah mistakes do happen in Iraq. And my feelings go out to the pilot. However, I live in the UK, and like America, my government let's everyone in. In America, that's called freedom.
The difference being in WW2 we fought across the channel,we were one side the Germans the other. Now like America we allow the movement of people, Our fight now starts on our own soil, from within. The media doesn't help. Very Negative, turning us against Muslims. It's a very confusing world and the media has a huge role to play. Politicians are out for themselves,Countries have their own egos. Religion ?. I don't know the answers. But I know one thing 'Mother nature is getting her own back' Regardless of where you live?, What Colour?, or what religion. ????

Americans shouldn't accept ANYTHING Hollywood says as true at all, unless they can verify it properly.

Obviously OldeSalt know nothing about history, so listen. The war started in 1939, not the bloody forties. Hell, we declared war in the first place.
Now the fact is the Battle of Britain was won, by us, while the yanks were keeping your noses clean because you didn't think it was their problem. By the time they entered the war, Germany was already on the back foot.
Now that's not to say you weren't excellent help and you should be thanked for that, but you didn't win the war. Really Russia won the war but you never liked that fact; they killed several times more Germans than you and we did together.

Also that Pilot who made a mistake should still be accountable for the action. He killed a man and wounded others. He is as responsible as someone who isn't looking at the road and runs someone over. They're still accountable and so should your bloody pilot be.

the fact is the majority of British soldiers killed in the invasion were at Americas hand. They should learn to shoot straight and adopt a better tactic that 'if it moves, shoot it' or go home and stop playing soldiers.

the media are the ones inflaming the situation. every ethnic group can say and do just about anything while we tiptoe around their feelings. but it seems that we are not allowed to have an opinion or fly our flag, we are expected to tone down the celebrations of V E day, in case we upset the germans. its political correctness gone mad. instead of giving these obviously racist factions a platform, the media should support our police, our government and the british way of life. the police are right to hold anyone suspected of having any connection to terrorism, no matter what their race, colour or religion. if a white christian was held for days and then released would there be such a fuss, i dont think so. but by stirring up peoples emotions the newspapers make more money.there are good people and bad in every race but what the people of this planet seem to forget is that we are all one, THE HUMAN RACE. if anyone was to blame for the terrible loss in iraq ,its the idiot that told the pilot that there were no freindlies in the area not the pilot who was only following orders.

First off I'd like to say I am American, and have been stationed in the UK for over three years now. So I've seen both sides with my own eyes. The US and UK are very similar in many ways, but both are very misunderstood of each other, mainly by what you see on TV. For us Americans, we rarely see any negative media from the UK, so it seems the entire UK lives in a Fairy Tale directly from William and Kate. While in the UK, every news story or reality TV show depicts Americans as rednecks, fat, and ignorant. Explains a lot if you ask me. About the war, is equipment the only thing you think we supplied? What about over a quarter million young men? Don't forget about the war in the Pacific, the Japanese were just as ruthless as the Germans!

You are answering rubbish from some idiots. The very fact that came from Idaho should tell you something. The place is famous for potatoes and nuts (not the kind that grow on trees). In WWII the Brits and Americans fought as equals while nursing the French and Italians along. Remember the Battle of Britain, the siege at Tobruk, and the hunts for the Bismark and Graf Spee? Most Americans love and respect Brits and I believe most Brits love and respect Americans. I lived in Europe for seven years and the only place where I didn't feel welcome was France. Of course you really do need to work on that Yorkshire Pudding!

America didn't win WW2. The Soviet Union took on the majority of the Nazi military and defeated them, and then they pushed on into Berlin and toppled the Nazi's after Hitler committed suicide.

The Soviet's then directed their military to Japan and gave them a week to surrender. Japan started to work out the terms of surrender with the Soviets, but America saw this and calculated the fact that Japan surrendering to the Soviets would mean they had toppled both Germany and Japan. America therefore nuked the Japanese civilians before Japan could finish the terms of surrender,

Hollywood won't agree, but I'm afraid it's true. America played a great role in WW2, but they didn't save Europe like they say.

I'll tell my grandad that i hear ed when he was at dunkirk he was sucking his thumb(according to some yank)while holding back 3 German armies,oh yeah that was a year before they turned up are these the same people who wouldn't help us in the Falklands
and who helped the argies conduct amphibious training 4 months before the invasion who wouldn't lend us ships in support our liberation,it just shows that how narrow minded people are,
of 800men in his battalion 140 made to Dover after the war he found out that some were executed taken prisoner and many killed in the fighting, according to some people with ther thumbs in the mouths

Anyone who said "Britain sucked it thumb during World War 2" doesn't know his rectum from a hole in the ground. The Brits were courageous, resourceful, hell of a fine military, led by the most outstanding Icon of WWII, Winston Churchill, and suffered much and prevailed.

As to who won WWII, free people won WWII as well as some very unfree, namely the USSR. America won it, the UK and the Commonwealth countries won it, Western Europe won it.

Sorry- can't see a question in there. You seem to have strayed from your topic- or was it just a rant?

Dont get me wrong, i agree with a lot of what you said. War is internal now, Media overhypes EVERYTHING. Politicians seem to me to be taking wild guesses at how to solve prolems and the climate is going ape****

I'm annoyed at that statement- 'sucked our thumbs?' Britian was in the war from start to finsih, and we never had time to sit back and 'suck our thumbs' over it while America dilly-dallied for political reasons.

I don't know that answer and neither doe's anyone else. I do know that over 100,000 men and women lost their lives fighting far and abroad to keep Japan, Germany and Italy from taking over this world. Bravo to them and bravo to all sides who help defeat the radicals. And if not for the yanks, we all would be speaking Japanese, German or Italian. Thats a fact.
