Wow, I love my answers, they're all great {except for the perverted/rude ones, but meh}.
I can't choose a best answer because they're almost all very nice. I really just wanted to know other's opinions because I know cats like to lie in unusual positions and in strange places. I've always wondered why he likes it there especially {he lies there almost every night, at sleepy time}. So it's even more intriguing when they lie in the same strange places, you know?
Thank you for your concern, holy_crap, but it's alright because I really wanted to know everyone's opinions/thoughts on it {not really the perverted ones, but I pay no attention to 'em}.
And to anyone who thinks I'm asking to draw attention; c'mon? Haven't you ever wondered that yourself?? You must own a cat also and experienced that if you're in this section of Yahoo! Answers and looking up this question...
Anyways, I'll leave the best answer to you guys. But thank you for your responses, they helped a lot! :)

One big reason is for the warmth. Cats are little furnaces with a higher metabolic rate than any human. Which may explain why they don't live as long as humans do, they just put more into their lives (although a lot of that seems to be sleeping).
The other big reason is so she can be close to her person. You have a familiar scent, a comforting one, and you won't be able to take off without her (or him) knowing. It is also a safe position. For anyone to attack her they have to defeat her person first. So sleeping in between your legs is a very good place for your cat to be, if you look at the situation through the viewpoint of the cat.

Cats seem to like enclosed spaces of any type. Surely anyone who has a cat has seen a cat just get inside a box it can barely fit in. We have a chubby cat who will get into a little box she can barely fit in. She fills it up like a waterbed and there s not even enough room for her head to lie down in it next to her body. She just rests there with her head sticking up. lol Sometimes I give them a "tent" with an old sheet over my exercise bike (since I never use it, of course), and when that s up, they ll spend all day in there. :-)

i think it may have to do with comfort and security
i have two cats and two small dogs who by the way all four sleep with us, every night when we go to bed the cats and dogs run up on the pillows wait for us to cover up and then its a race to get under the blankets, both cats sleep cuddled up together between my legs or on the back of my leg if im on my side the dogs squezze right in the middle of my husband and i, when they get to warm the come above the blankets and litterly sleep on the cats who are under the blankets, my two cats who are very large house cats, seem to like to go in small places that are to small for them, who knows but i do know i may have to change my queen size bed to a double
i located two sites that may be of interest to you, not only to talk with other cat owners but it also provides other cat needs and answers a lot of question

even as kittens are with their moms, they are taught out of the handbook of CAT one 0 one: a thanks to impede human beings. A cat has 2 alternatives on a mattress. One is to gradually take over the entire mattress, leaving you purely a sliver on which to attempt to sleep, or make it not obtainable that you'll be able to flow if you're in mattress. even as they sleep between your legs, they are pinning you down. in basic terms one extra service they supply. My one cat likes to position throughout my feet in mattress. not purely making it not obtainable for me to flow, she has the potential to regulate gravity, gradually going from a a lot less then 8 pound kitty into something extra like 2 luggage of cement.

It's warm and cats enjoy the feeling the sense of security that comes with sleeping in small, enclosed areas.

My cat does that too. I think it's for warmth and to be close to you while you're sleeping. After all, you're just a big cat to her.

Well getting serious, my dogs do it too when I'm watching tv on the couch... they get confortable and then want me to pet them... Maybe I should try to get them a doggie girlfriend?

just ignore all the idiotic responses, but like the others, the cats like the warmth and feel secure there. it's like nesting to them.
good luck!
