Does anyone have a child that has been diagnosed w/ Asperger's and has taking any type of Martial Arts? Did it help or should I not even try to go in that direction?

I used to teach a student with Aspergers (although undiagnosed at the time) and she took basic karate. She had behavior issues with the Aspergers since schedules in general were not her forte.

Overall, she did well with it. Her parents talked with her instructor about some of the issues that their daughter may face. It doesn't hurt to try it. See if you can find a place that has had special education students in the past. Also see if you can find an introductory session(s) to do a test trial.

Good for you for trying it out regardless!!

My son with Asperger's is in 1st Grade and started martial arts in Sept. He has been having a lot of fun and it has helped his concentration. He usually has problems with other kids touching him and he has been working with the other kids without a problem. Even though he has some trouble with following the combinations, I would say it has been a great experience.

My nephew has that also.
He has recently started karate.
I do not know if it is helping, but I think it is well worth trying.
