If it's a HYPER dog, then the best thing to do is keep the dog in a crate, for it's safety and yours.

Don't leave the dog in the car at night (Someone else suggested you do) if you can't find a motel that will take them - There are plenty of them out there, keep driving or plan your route ahead and book motels you know will take animals.

Here's a list:
1. Keep the dog in a crate!
2. NEVER remove the dog's collar.
3. Keep ID tags on the dog.
4. Before you let the dog out of the crate you should ROLL UP ALL WINDOWS AND SHUT ALL DOORS.
5. Put the leash on the dog BEFORE opening any window or door.
6. Using a Harness can help if you have a dog that likes to slip off his collar when frightened.
7. Take the dog for a half hour drive a few days BEFORE you leave. This way, if the dog gets carsick, you'll know and can get meds from your vet to prevent this.
8. Give the dog plenty of water to drink! They get dehydrated easily when they're stressed.
9. Feed the dog DRY food, it's not nearly as messy on the trip.
10. Don't try to sneak him into a hotel. The fees aren't worth it, and neither is losing your room....just book in advance or leave him in the car at night.
11. Take a copy of his vet records WITH YOU.

Take lots of breaks at rest stops and walk your dog around. You may also want to have a few toys and treats ready in case he/she gets bored. Try a Nylabone Healthy Edibles bone or a Purina Busy Bone. Those will keep him/her busy.

get a good harness an leash ,to be able to walk him at rest stops, take his or her toys ,soft blanket or pillow to put in dog crate, food an water dishes, , take jug of water, and food and treats.wrap seat belt around crate if you can for his ,her safety . or hook the seat belt to him .it would be best to secure him so he wont be running all over the car and distract you, good luck and hope you have a safe drive home.
