Well, in terms of languages spoken, the language of the scriptures is Sanskrit, but that is not spoken nowadays. India has way too many languages to count, I personally speak Malayalam.

Hindus worship one Supreme Being, but attribute different names to Him (as evidenced by the myriad deities). Worship of a given deity usually involves offerings of flowers, fruit, or some other type of food (often a sweet), waving an oil lamp before them (it's supposed to symbolize eternal light, I believe), chanting of verses from the scriptures, and sometimes devotional songs. Really it differs from deity to deity, in terms of the worship style.

Diwali is a holiday celebrated all over India, the "festival of lights." Commonly, it is attributed with the Goddess Lakshmi visiting the homes of devotees and granting them prosperity for the coming year. Other holidays (Holi, Pongal, etc.) tend to be more regionally celebrated.

Hope this helps!
