no twins are not always the same gender. there are a number of different kinds of twins .
a brother and sister can be twins .
two sisters can be twins and not be identical
two boys can be twins and not be identical
two children can be mirror images of each other
two children can be nearly identical but not quite.
twins should really be a word people use to say the mother was pregnant with more then one child at the same time. after that there is just as many or even more variations of people that would be the children. they dont even have to be born on the same day. some times not often doctors deliver one baby but leave the other one or more then one in the mother longer this is done because of room most often so the children are twins but dont have the same birth date that is something
what i have listed as twins is not the entire range of kinds of twins there are more . twins are interesting to learn about i suggest you read up on this .

NO. TWINS CAN BE MALE AND FEMALE, AND DESPITE WHAT EVERYONE IS SAYING ON HERE ABOUT IDENTICALS HAVING TO BE THE SAME SEX, THEY ARE WRONG. IDENTICALS CAN BE TWO DIFFERENT SEXES, ALTHOUGH IT IS REALLY RARE.

Monozygotic (identical) twins are genetically identical (unless there has been a mutation in development) and they are the same gender. (On extremely rare occasions, an original XXY zygote may form monozygotic boy/girl twins by dropping the Y chromosome for one twin and the extra X chromosome for the other.)

SO IT IS POSSIBLE FOR BOTH FRATERNAL AND IDENTICAL TWINS TO BE A BOY AND A GIRL, BUT VERY UNLIKELY TO HAVE A SET OF IDENTICAL TWINS END UP BEING A BOY AND A GIRL, MUCH MORE LIKELY FOR FRATERNAL TWINS TO BE A BOY AND A GIRL.

no they could be fraternal twins

identical twins are the result of a single egg being fertilized by a single sperm. The single fertilized egg then divides into two separate embryos that go on to become identical twins.

Fraternal twins are the result of two separate eggs being ovulated at the same time. In this instance, two different sperm are responsible for fertilizing the two eggs.

One way to think of this is that fraternal twins are really just like any other siblings except for the fact that they happened to be conceived at the same time. They are as likely or unlikely to look like each other as any other siblings. Identical twins, however, generally look more alike, having originated from the same egg.

I'm sure you know that there are different types of twins, same sex, boy/girl, fraternal;born at the same time but not the same ,sex ,size, looks, color, race, characteristics, personality, not even from the same eggs,so there you have it .

yeah, like almost everyone else with a brain said, fraternal twins are made of different genetic material so they can be as different as regular siblings, they just share the same space. Maternal twins have the same genetic material, they're natural "clones" if you will, so they will be the same gender (they're either exactly alike or mirror images of each other, depending on how the egg split) unless, of course, one of them has a sex change later in life, then they won't be the same gender anymore--but they start out the same.

Identical twins have to be the same sex because they come from one fertilized egg that splits into two. Fraternal twins come from 2 different eggs fertilized by two different sperm; they are no more similar than any other brothers and sisters, They can be two boys, two girls or one of each..

furturnal (sorry if this is spelled wrong) twins are sometimes girl and boy, sometimes the same sex. Identical twins are always the same sex. I hope you don't mind me saying, but did you notice this was in singles&dating. It's okay though, I made the same mistake a few days ago. Hope I helped answering your question.

No, quite often they are the opposite sex. It also depends on if it was 2 sperm entered the egg, or it 2 sperm enter two different eggs that were released at the same time of ovulation. But they still can be the opposite sex. Take care Heather
