No such thing as an Atheist?

Why do people say this?

They assume the same standards of certainty among non-believers as they claim for their own faith. They forget that we are merely NOT adhering to beliefs where there is no evidence (whereas they are), believing instead that we are CERTAIN that god does not exist.

The answer is that we are as certain their god does not exist as they are that Zeus does not exist, and Wotan, and Apollo, and Ra, and every other god about which they are atheistic.

Though that doesn't usually put off the terminally dense, it's still the best answer.

I agree with please help me, like always. I would re-phrase her statement though.

I think people say this, because they think that everyone knows deep inside that God does exist.

Of course the people who say there is not such thing as an Atheist are wrong, as some people still have not come to know that God exists. (joke)

(BTW, I am not one of the people who says atheists don't exist.)

When you understand the way Theist think it is really easy to understand why the say that. Here is how it looks in a Theist mind
Believe in God = God Exists
so therefore
Don't believe in Atheists = Atheists don't exists.

Because everyone believes there is a higher authority out there - whether it be God, aliens or watever it is - if you believe in something -which everyone does - then there is no such thing as an atheist
