Food irradiation is the process of exposing food to ionizing radiation in order to disinfect, sanitize, sterilize, preserve food or to provide insect disinfestation. Irradiation is a more general term of deliberate exposure of materials to radiation to achieve a technical goal. As such it is also used on non food items as well, such as medical hardware, polymeric plastics or gem stones. Food irradiation it is sometimes referred to as cold pasteurization to emphasize its similarity to the process of pasteurization—treatment of solid food by ionizing radiation can provide an effect similar to heat pasteurization of liquid foods, such as milk.

what the irradiation process does is to use NON- PARTICLE energy type radiation which are similar to x rays to kill all the bacteria in food. i believe they actually use neutron emission for you science geeks. since the food is completely sterile , it can be stored at room temperature indefinitely as long as the packaging is airtight. so yes, it is very safe, much safer than fresh produce from California, like spinach...

100% safe. The radiation does not get into the food -it just kills those bad micro's.
It is the process of treating food with radiation to kill bacteria and help with the shelf life of foods. It can kill pathogens(bacteria that can get people sick)
Sometimes the radiation can affect the texture or color of the food but it is 100% safe.
