ONLY 18 - I think 9 is too many for golf! The game would take 2 days instead of just one if it were any more than 18.

Only? Just wondering, have you ever played 18 holes of golf with no breaks?(except for water)
While golf is really fun, it gets tiring, and for me, a guy who only plays a bit, 9 holes is enough to wear me out.
18 holes of golf takes up more than 4 hours, and that is a lot of time.
Maybe the inventor of golf figured that 18 holes was enough for one round.

Because they only wanted that many. Irishman, Billy Odell was playing the game way back then, he invented golf, he was so tired after playing 18 holes that he decided that was enough for any man on any day so he wrote that rule.

Pursuant to federal statute, no game in which there are more than 18 holes may exist.

I always thought it had to do with liquor consumption. After 18 the average golfer could no longer see straight, hit it straight, walk straight or make any claims to their wife that had a remote chance of being believed.
