When you downloaded Adobe Reader 8.0, did it say its for windows vista as well? Many software have different downloads for different version of Windows. There are plenty of free PDF readers (you can google) out there but I am not sure how many of them (if any) will work on Windows Vista.

Try contacting Adobe. Maybe they can help.

Good Luck!!

FoxIT Reader ( http://foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php ) is a free PDF reader and is considerably faster than Adobe Acrobat Reader.

And if you need to go the other way and make PDFs, then I recommend PDFCreator ( http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/ ), which is also free. It installs a "virtual printer" on your computer allowing you to make any file you can print into a PDF.
