What's the weirdest insurance claim you have heard about? I came across this one: “A frozen squirrel fell out of a tree and crashed through the windscreen on to the passenger seat”.

The son in-law was going to the cottage one weekend and used my Excursion to pull his boat (28 foot cruiser).
On the highway, he slammed on the breaks and the boat literally came off the trailer and rear ended the truck.
Biggest problem wasn't getting the car fixed it was arguing with the boat insurance as they claimed it was not in the water.

We once handled a claim on an SUV that was parked at the city waste processing plant -- it seems that the city engineers were demonstrating a new bladder system for raw sewage storage when (of course) it burst, sending two thousand gallons of sewage into the parking lot and flooding the cars over the door sills. Yes, the smell would make you gag (even after a local carwash had cleaned the SUV -- causing at least two workers there to actually vomit). Of course we totaled the truck but here's the weird part --- the owner almost begged us to repair it...(??)
Yuk.

One I remember from my first year working in claims:

Car stolen from insured's driveway.

Several days later, police respond to a report on the east side of a man sitting on the sidewalk drinking from a jug of Clorox bleach. As they are "interviewing" bleach man, one of the officers looks up and sees a car being driven around the corner and through the intersection, except this car is being driven backwards. Thinking this is a bit odd, he stops the vehicle. It turns out to be the stolen car referenced above.

The driver, of course, says it's not stolen. He just bought the car a couple hours earlier. When pressured, he admits he paid for the car with drugs. Who did he "buy" it from? You guessed it - bleach man! Car recovered & returned to owner with ~$2k damage.

I am a retired claims adjuster. Most of my claims were weird. One of my co-workers got called to active military duty. He parked his car in the driveway at his home. While he was gone, raccoons nested in the engine compartment. They ate plastic and rubber parts. There were several dead little raccoons left behind by the dumbass parents.
