He started speaking in Spanish in front of me today and I told him to stop, but he didn't 'cause he said that I would eventually catch on,but I don't know any Spanish what so ever. I mean I don't want to feel dumb when I'm around his Spanish friends,but I don't think by him talking in Spanish will help me catch on 'cause he talks so fast,but I am taking Spanish classes next year

just ignore him and don't bite. Love only knows one language and if he sees your not responding to his game he will move on.

Take it from a Mexicano, don’t make it a big deal, just think if you were in mexico and you have American friends and you stare taking English in front of him. If he is doing this is because there is 2 reasons, the 1st is that he just misses the communication between his people ( believe me, there is a huge difference between any languages) and 2nd, he is taking about something that he dose not want you to know. But at the end, if he is polite, he will stop and ask his friends to try to speak English so you will not be excluded.

So what's your question? I still understand. You shouldn't get mad when your boyfriend speaks his original tounge. It obviously made you take a Spanish class. I think you did the sweetest thing. Yu are actually doing something special for him. That's cute. How about you tell him to teach you some basics. It will help you to start with. In general, learning two languages can benefit you in the future. I know that you'll get answers saying that's uncouth and disrespectful, but look at this this way: how would he feel if he was in your position? think about it, you just got with him, without he knowing any English. Sounds like your havin some trouble there hun, tell him that you dont understand spanish all that well yet and see if he can teach you and also see if he can wait till next year since you'll be taking a course in spanish, if he doesnt then dump him, hes just disrespecting you. Good Luck Hun.

Well the best way to learn a language is to be immersed in it (have people speak it around you). But you really need to know the basics first like the verb tenses and stuff like that. I'm sure if you ask him to teach you he will. If your really uncomfortable with it just tell him and he will stop. It seems like it is important to him so try you best! Bueno Suerte.

You need to let your boyfriend know that what he is doing is very disrespectful. One should never speak a language in front of another person who doesn't understand it. Plus, you don't know if he is talking about you to his friends. Let him know that it bothers you and if he doesn't respect your feelings then maybe you need to find someone that will. Good luck!

he is not being respectful you don't know if hes talking about you or someone you know if he wants to speak to you he can speak English this is America and English should be his first spoken language besides its all about respect and right now he is not showing any. if he cares he would teach you and he would only speak English till you can learn.

Is he Puerto Rican? they speak Spanish SOOOO fast it's hard to understand if you DO speak it... All I can say is get lessons from him in the meantime basically say "Baby, Can you teach me some spanish?" and bat your eyes and be pretty....

ask him to use basic words for now...and that he translate it in english....things like:
how do you do?
thank you
welcome, etc
if he and his friends keeps talking in spanish try to listen and ask him about it (e.g.meaning of the word/sentence)...
but if you're feeling out of place everytime they do this, then let your boyfriend know what you feel

Oh that is terrible.. It is like he is hiding something. Did you tell him how it makes you feel? If you tell him that in private and he doesn't stop.. find a new boyfriend. It is the start of not caring how you feel. And you deserve better..
