Sorry .....It seems I have offended a lot of people. Judging from the response in 5 hours, this is a very sensitive issue.
Question.....If we all feel so strongly about rape, why do we as a civilised society let rapists off with light uncustodial ssentences?

Actually I went back to read it and you pretty much said you would distance yourself from the thought, so I don't quite get why so many got their panties in such a twist.
Though, I am sure you knew that you would get a response from this question simply because you posted it and most women (and some men) feel very strongly about this topic. Especially if they themselves have been raped or are close to someone who has. If I were you I would tread lightly upon subjects that you aren't certain about or face the consequences my friend....
If it were up to me (and it isn't) They should take each rapist and pop out their eyes and cut off their member and put them in a room full of gay bikers and let them take entry through the back door. Release them into society with RAPIST tattooed on their forehead and be made to work in a prison picking up bars of soap that the inmates drop. Of course our luck, they would probably enjoy it too much!

Everyone venting their wrath seems to have missed the point that MALES CAN BE RAPED TOO! I just know what you are all wishing upon the questioner now...
and possibly not rape, but grape (because theres a bunch of them)?

We as ordinary members of society do not 'let them off', - the judges do.
It doesn't help that the prisons are full.
