My daughter and I will be in NYC in late March. We are looking for a clean, reasonable hotel within walking distance of Broadway. We'll be there for 3 days - what are some "must see" recommendations?

The Belvedere is a three-star hotel in the heart of the theatre district- immaculate, friendly, helpful staff, every room has a coffee maker, fridge and microwave. it's near wonderful restaurants in all price ranges, a supermarket, and other stores. Rates start at $160, but you can find a better rate by shopping Orbitz, PriceLine, etc.

Buy a copy of the magazine TimeOut New York - get one now to help you plan your trip and buy one when you get to New York. The magazine is a fairly complete guide, including museums - which exhibits are being shown that week, events, benefits, book signings, concerts, movie schedules, theatre schedules, designer sales and much more.

Check out the Off-Broadway shows - some of them are better than those that are on Broadway and tickets are much cheaper.

The Top of the Rock at Rockefeller Center has an observatory - better view than the Empire State Building and shorter lines - on a clear night, the view is spectacular.

Be sure to leave Times Square and check out a few of the residential neighborhoods. The East Village has interesting little shops and boutiques and many inexpensive ethnic restauants. Walk in the West Village - many historical houses where artists and authors lived. The Upper West Side is a nice area to see and you can go into Central Park. If you are interested in art museums, the Metropolitan is the one to not be missed - it's one of the finest museums in the world. The Museum of Natural History is fascinating.

New York is a shopper's paradise; if you are interested in shopping, check out these stores:
Century 21

The East Village has lots of little shops/independant designer boutiques. Try Tokio 7 at 64 East 7th Street at First Avenue - it's a designer consignment shop. It can get very crowded, but you can find things here you won't see anywhere else. If you like Denim, look at Famous Friends at 616 East 9th Street (between Avenues B and C)

Walk through Soho - wonderful clothing stores. Have at least one meal in Chinatown - great for souvenir shopping.

Be sure to go into the Time Warner building - very expensive stores and restaurants. Even if you don't buy anything there, you can sit on a bench indoors and look out over Central Park.

You should take a ride on the Staten Island Ferry (it's free). You'll get a great view and photo op of The Statue of Liberty and a wonderful look at the Manhattan skyline. If the weather is pleasant, you can walk up to the Financial Center along the Promenade. Get an ice cream at Custard Beach - they feature different flavors every day - if you're lucky, they'll have Creme Brulee.
Have a great time!

The hotel rates vary according to the demand for that week. We got a good price once at a Marriott Courtyard.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art has everything-not just paintings and sculptures, but also knights and armor, mummies, an Egyptian temple. It's well worth the trip.
Take a ride on the Staten Island Ferry. It's cheap and fun
Have a dim sum brunch on Sunday morning in Chinatown.
Make a reservation for the pretheater dinner at The Four Seasons, one of the most famous restaurants in the world. If you are seated by 6:15, the entire dinner from appetizer to dessert is only $65. Ask to be seated in the pool room. The trees in the pool room are decorated according to the season. Jackets and ties are required for men. The phone number is 212-754-9494.
Get a discount ticket for the theater. You can find them on line searching for discount broadway tickets or at the half price ticket booth. You definitely want to see a Broadway play.
Go shopping at Century 21 for discount high style. It's across the street from Ground Zero.

Well im not very sure about a hotel because i have never needed a hotel in NYC, but some shows that you mUST see are

The Pajama Game- a romance, but may be a little unappropriate, so be careful
The Lion King- Tis is an all time classic, you must see this!
The Beauty and The Beast- We all love classics why not see another?

Oh and make sure you visit as many famous places in new york as you possibly can! Have fun!

The Algonquin is a great hotel, on W. 44th, lots of history, just revamped. Stayed there w/ my niece last labor day weekend, she loved it. Rooms from $179, not bad for NYC. Check out link:
