We have a 9 month old boxer that has separation anxiety so bad that when we put her in her kennel. She chews on the plastic and vomits on it. Also she drools so bad that she dehydrates herself. We have tried the radio that doesn't work we have given her things to occupy herself to no avail. She is on covicalm but have had no results yet. She goes for walks daily so that she burns of some energy. She is fine when we are at home she will go in the kennel with no problem. It is when you leave the house that the war is on HELP!!!!!

I've never heard of covicalm? Is it an herb or presription?
If its not working, its time to try something else...
Let your vet know that you need to up the dose or try another
alternative.
When you find something that works,
maybe after a while she will calm down enough over time to ween her off of it..

Also:
Once you do this and it gets into his system THEN try what Tanya is suggesting along with it...
and ween her off the meds later as she improves

Have you tried to just leave for five minutes and then come back. Do this a few times a day over a weekend. Then, give her a treat and give her a ton of attention when you get in the house. Your puppy is new, therefore you have to train her how to know you are coming back and that she isn't going to be left alone. Our puppy did this also - chewed up everything! We soon got her to realize that we were coming back again by taking "baby steps" for her to know we would come back. It is like a child that throws a temper tantrum when left at school and etc. They make themselves sick also. So, just start to leave longer increments each time and she will learn. Give her some hard toys also. Never give more than three toys at a time though in the kennel. Dogs with too many choices, decide to not play with any. Also make sure that is an attached (taped if you have to) water container in the kennel so that the dog won't get dehydrated. Good Luck!

Try leaving the house with her, in her kennel, for five minutes and then come back and let her out and give her lots of love. Then an hour later do the same, but for ten minutes. Keep this up but make the time longer each time. This will help her get used to it, and have her know you are coming back.

is she crate trained??? its also worth a check up at the vets to rule out a physical cause, after that you can try training from a different angle, get a few books or look up "house training an older puppy" on the Internet. after your add ... i would suggest taking her to training classes, boxers are very intelligent and full of energy, she will really benefit from the classes, meeting new dogs, people, learning things. after-wards you SHOULD be left with a happy family dog, one that you can actually enjoy! also walk her for at least half hour in the morning and evening, if you have time in the day a lunchtime walk would be great too, feed her at 5-6pm but if she doesn't finish it don't leave it down just throw it away. leave water down all day but take it up at about 8pm, but if you feel she still needs water offer her ice cubes instead.

This is really going to sound gross but wear a t -shirt for a complete weekend do not wear deorderant. the object of this is to leave your scent with her when your away. also try leaving her for short periods of time. try putting her in her crate 1/2 hour before you are going to leave. When you arrive home do not go to her right away, wait until she quiets down before releasing her from her crate. YOU need to take back control of the situation. I have raised dogs that have done this and have used all of these. Don't give up you will win the war!
