Here`s how it works at my clinic. The animal is fasted the night prior to surgery. Upon his arrival at the clinic, he`s given a tranquilizer to relax him. Once he`s settled, he will be put under anaesthesia. A protective gel is put in the eyes (they are often open whilst the cat in under anaesthetic), his scrotum is shaved and disinfected. The testes are then removed and the incision sutured up. The stitches may be dissolvable or not. If not, he should come back in 10-12 days for suture removal (a good vet will not charge for this procedure). He might have to wear an Elizabethan collar (satellite dish) as well.
When he gets home, he can have small amounts of food and water to begin as sometimes the anaesthetic gives them nausea. You should also keep him as quiet as possible and prevent him from jumping, climbing stairs or playing roughly with other pets. He should be back to himself the next day. Good luck

Neutering for a male is really a pretty simple procedure. Your cat will be coming home the same day you take him in - vets don't keep them over night. They're also really good about giving you detailed instructions on your pet's care once you get them home. They'll give you all the info you need. When he comes home, he'll be a little woozy from the anesthetic, he won't want to eat and you really shouldn't try to force him to eat that day. Make sure he has water available, though. Just let him be quiet to recuperate. Males are generally back to their normal selves the day after surgery. Don't worry, your JJ will be just fine!

Surgery is pretty quick and simple. It doesn't take long. Some vets will release the cat back to you the same afternoon. Others will keep them overnight.

Just make sure you ask the vet for pain medication for him at home. Cats cannot take human pain meds!

Chances are, he'll be fine pretty quick. He sounds like he's just ornery enough to NOT NOTICE he's had surgery! LOL

well he will maybe be there overnight so they can observe him and he will ned a ltter made of wood for the purpose that it doesnt get into his cut.He will be a little sore but you can hold him like you always do.when my cat got fixed he came home he was real groggy still after a day and he couldnt sit on his but so he would cry then just flop down.i felt so bad.my vet didnt give any meds but your vet might just so it will heal faster.dont worry he will be fine just a couple uncomfortable days and he will sleep all of them too.The surgury takes 20 minutes tops

Thank you for being repsonsible and getting your cat neutered. That's a great thing to do.

He should come around pretty quick, but don't pick him up for a little while. For neutering cats can usually come home the same day (it is less envasive then spaying). He'll be pretty sluggish when he comes home, just sit with him, and stroke his head for awhile (although he may be mad at you).
