Power steering fluid is susposed to be a yellowish clear colour. Do NOT use transmission fluid unless recomended by the manufacture, use approved Power steering fluid. Some vehicles use transmission fluid in the power steering system however, if this is the case it is red, and in that case DO NOT use power steering fluid. Power steering and transmisson fluid are completly different componds. Transmission fluid will work but will move easier past seals as it is thinner then power steering fluid. that can cause harder steering and damage to internal componants caused by stress.

Power steering fluid is usually clear, maybe yellowish. Some people use transmission fluid, which is red.

Usually it's red, unless it's a citroen as it's green as a brake fluid, power steering fluid and hydraulic fluid all-in-one.
Any doubts, take it to the local garage they'll look and make sure.
