well its EXTREMALY natural for a chi to tremble becasue they jus do, not from the cold, but from extreme nervousness, the food doesnt do anything either. I tell alot of chi owners that maybe a good sweater will do, but its usually fro mthe dogs history in the family.
The nervousness that pass along from way back in the ancient mexican era..

Two Ideas:
1. Since chihuahua's don't really have that much body temperature, they get cold fast. We bought a sweater for our cavalier king charles because she used to tremble with coldness.
2. Keep a hot water bottle (wrapped in a few towels to not burn the puppy) in the kennel or under the puppy favorite place to lay. This will keep it warmer.
Make sure also that it isn't stress. These little guys are whimps, therefore it might be that he/she is nervous you are picking it up. Good Luck!

I currently have 4 Chi's and think they're the best companion dogs ever but as you know they also have odd reactions to many things. Not only do my boys shake when slightly cold they also tremble when; they know they've done something wrong before I do, when overly excited and/or want my undivided attention, and of course when they're nervous/frightened. My oldest boy who has since past away from disease used to tremble when he wasn't feeling well, for yours it may be just an upset tummy. You know your pet best of all...just looking into their cute little faces can tell us if they need medical attention or just a little love.

I have a chihuahua and he shakes and trembles all the time. He's 13 and we have had him since he was 6 weeks old and he's always done this. The vet said it was nothing to worry about. If your that concerned call the vet. Good luck

They have special food bowls that just came out that are designed to stop dogs from eating too fast. Try that for a simple fix but if it doesn't help i would take the little guy to the vet.
Good Luck

Actually thats not totaly true I have a chi and he isn't what other people say they are. My chi is nice to most people and doesn't tremble unless he is cold which is the total opposite of the chi's nature.

Are you meaning, he shakes all over?Maybe it is scared of being picked up.If he eats ferociously, he may be wormy.Your vet can tell you for sure. They are very excitable dogs.He will calm down with time.I had a chihuahua until Dec.,she was 15,and I said I'd never get another one.I now have a JRT/mix.Good luck with your new best friend......

We are Chihuahua breeder, it is natural reaction for them to shiver, sometimes, the excitment will cause that too. They are a very tender breed. Sometimes, when they are excited they even sneeze, each dog has its personality. Food perference is another issue, most deal with allegy

I guess it's a thing with their breed. Mine does the exact same thing pretty much 24/7. The only time he doesn't shiver is when he gets out of the bath tub LOL
