We have given up flying First Class and have taken to hiring a private jet and pilot for our trips abroad. The difference is astonishing. Special treatment at all aiports, hasssle-free entry procedures, VIP lounges and no lost luggage. When you consider the wear and tear on one's psyche attempting the usual bun fight that is the modern public air journey, it is money well spent.

This is now becoming more popular and affordable for many, especially if you have a large family going on vacation or want to impress a business client with a corporate jet charter.

In the next few years I expect an even bigger increase in numbers as many jet chrater companies are advertising online.

Harriet are you serious?

And exactly how much does it cost to get this special treatment?

I've only ever flown first class on an "up grade" and felt it was a waste of money. I'm six foot two and I might pay extra for a little more leg room but not five grand for some achohol and lazy-boy.

Are you traveling in groups. I found out a few years ago that I could travel from Newport RI to NYC by Limo cheaper than by train, if I could get six people to share the cost. That I might consider.

Perhaps you can answer this. When you fly abroad, how do other countries know not to shoot you down when you enter their airspace? Don't you have to file a flight plan and get approval for landing in a foreign country before you take off? How long is the wait? If there are no regulations, wouldn't terrorists just fly anywhere?

Yes I would. In fact, if I could afford it, I'd buy the plane and hire a pilot when I needed to use the plane. With a bit of luck, I may even be able to lease the plane to the company I hired the pilot from and make a bit of money out of it as well.
