I think it's a dominance thing. Either that or your male cat is just an A-Hole.

I would say that he is jealous of the attention, but most younger cats aren't really this way yet, they're having too much fun with shadows and imaginary mice. He could also sense that she is weak, felines are very good at this. Almost all animals will weed out the weak of the herd, pack, etc... it's called survival of the fittest. The fact that he is young also means that he has a lot of his natural instincts left in him so he won't stop doing this until he becomes older, mature, and more tame. The best thing you can do for Coco is to keep him awayf from her.

Lastly, I know you said you wouldn't get rid of her, but there comes a point when you will have to put her down. If she is almost blind and if she isn't happy and is miserable and you're just keeping her around because you don't want to have to deal with losing her, than that is the most selfish thing you can do. Getting her euthanised is humane and is not a bad thing if she suffers day in and day out. If this isn't the case, then by all means, enjoy your's and coco's relationship for as long as she is healthy, but if it is the case, please stop being shelfish and put her out of her misery.

Good luck and sorry.

its a male thing. and also a cat thing.
cats are actualy quite solitary animals, not like dogs that prefer the company of others.
so your jj is basically taking over the house. simple as that. coco has been running the roost, and he now he is the new don. he is showing her who's the boss, and also preventingher from getting food and attention, to just put his claim on both you and the food.
i have a similar situation with two new cats in my house.
give coco a little place that is just her own. maybe ger one of those cute cat igloo's. that she cat sleep in nicely without jj being able to bully her. also give coco lots of tlc when jj's not around, same with jj.
i would have jj nuetered in any instance, as he will start spraying, and fighting with the other males, and runing after the ladies, which in improve his chanches of catching diseases and getting run over or killed by someones dog.
what i can gather is that he's still a young guy, and he will get over it. after a while.
when he does attack coco, flick him on his nose, and then ignore him. dont faf over coco, this will just irritate him more.

Hi......
In response to your question....i think i might have an answer for you....
I used to have a male cat that used to pick on all the other cats.
I have 5 cats. The male will show dominence over the other animals because he is not fixed. Get him fixed and you will see a totally different cat. One thing that I do recommend...is.. if you do get him fixed..make sure to get him food that is low ash..

I lost one of my cats 3 years ago...because of the fact that he was fixed.. What happens ((in fixed males)) is, the urinary tract gets a buildup of crystals..which blocks it. ((unfortunately..i didn't have the money to save my kitty's life)). And beleive me, the vet bill will be verycostly if this happens..like in the 600$-800$.

Anyway...I hope this helps you.
Good luck with your kitties.

My newest male cat did the exact same thing only he picked on the other male cat. After taking my female cat to the vet one day he quit picking on the other male and only picked on the female!
It made no difference after I had him fixed.
What did make a difference is that he had internal problems and once that was under control he stopped fighting. He now licks the other cats and only wants to play.
Have your guy checked for parasites and check the litterbox to see if he has diarreha. It could be a medical issue.
A great tip the vet gave me is to splash water in his face anytime he is mean to the other cat. This made a big difference until we got his tummy problems under control. Good luck!

dont worry i had the same problem and my cat was jelouse of the female.he would jump on her for no reason even when she neededto use the litter box it got so bad she couldnt eat so i started yelling at him and i actually stopped paying attention to him and i will tell you dont do that it will get worse.you need to love him more than the female i guess all males are the same lol.the bowl thing is normal and yes it will still happen if you get him fixed mine still pisses her off.you have to let them battle it out and the female will get the point and start beating him up sooner or later.

Your male cat JJ behaves in full accordance with the holy and ferocious law of mother nature. All life is eager to freely want to express itself in that way, unless it is put under the severe control and surgery exercised by a higher power.

Your male cat JJ clearly needs a younger fiercy well-functioning female, or females, so he can mate and get more and more offspring, otherwise he is by nature very very intolerant, merciless in his own instinctive way.

To get him castrated is to do a horrible wrong to that living creature because mother nature didn't ever mean him to get castrated.

But, as we humans take pets unto us and want give them food and shelter and a cosy life in our own terms in our own very comfortable home, we want them to be our robots, our playthings, for our own amusement. But in fact it is sheer cruelty towards those animals, exercised by our own perverted will, and I am sure we would not hesitate a minute to do the same towards other human beings if we just were allowed to.

Asserting his place as No 1 Cat - and even the fact that she's neutered and elderly won't necessarily stop him trying to mate with her.

Getting him fixed may help the problem but I'd recommend it in any case. Unneutered toms tend to spray; they wander far and wide in search of lurve; they fight with other cats over females.

If he is not neutered, this is the problem. You should take him and have him neutered ASAP. He really should not be picking on the old cat. You should put her in a room alone so that she can eat and drink without having him bully her.

Sounds like he's jealous, and he's trying to prove that he's the "King of the castle".

You may need to keep them in separate parts of the house...poor Coco is probably terrified.

Try giving them separate food & water dishes. That might help.

He may just be being playful - and ornery. Hopefully, getting him fixed will help calm him down!

It's just bloody males all of them are a pain in the butt..my cat who stays with my mum wit her two male Tabby's all been neutered ..my cat is what u would call a little mini kitten but shes 11years old she just never grew to a normal size , but one of the Tabby's just loves to annoy her either follows her round the house, wants to eat her food not his, wants to sleep where she's sleeping....even though she's small she gives off a good fight when he gets really annoying...i don't no wot to suggest really my mum just puts up with their behaviour-- i think he might just fancy her :S
