I KNOW it for a fact.
A chap whom I know personally was an orphan and raised in a Catholic orphanage at which, it later came out, there were a number of provable incidents of physical abuse. Completely out of the blue he was contacted by a lawyer who had represented some of the claimants, who offered to see if he wanted to register a compensation claim since that religious order was by then running scared. This guy was going through the files files (released to the court) trying to track down former residents of the home and drum up business for himself.
I presently know of a double abuse claim against a priest which will not go through as the accusers are about to be exposed as frauds. They have spent the compensation already received by one of their husbands for a genuine abuse case...

Hi Midge, there are a few reasons why the abuse was blown out of proportion, firstly because it suited the self rigtheousness of non Catholics who enjoyed this open season on the church, also because it is the one true Apostolic church the devil is continually at war with it, again another reason is that if some mis-guided Priests were doing this then all of them must be guilty.
The money angle never occured to me but that too may be another factor.

No doubt. I'm not going to say that there weren't a number of valid cases, because priests are subject to human sins as we all are, but I do think that there are a few "ambulance chasers" in the bunch.

Not the ones I have seen in the cases brought against the Los Angeles Archdiocese. I'm not familiar with all of them, but - they look legit from what I have seen.
Do you have any examples?
