There is Biblical evidence of speaking in tongues. There has been contemporary evidence of writing in tongues, but it usually involves an individual being able to write in a language that he or she has no knowledge of.

In either case, the Bible is very clear. If the tongue-speaking is truly coming from the Holy Spirit, then there will be someone who can TRANSLATE the tongue as well as someone who is speaking or writing in the tongue.
If no one can translate, then I would say what is spoken or written is gibberish and does not come from the Holy Spirit.

Huh...I've never heard of writing in tongues. That'll be cool though, heh. But as for speaking in tongues, there are two different accounts of the two different kinds (one in Acts and one in 1 Cor). The tongues mentioned in 1 Cor is the one that needs translation. This is the public tongues. The other one in Acts is tongues as prayer language, which is tongues for your private devotion time and is not translated.
