my friend has a 6 month old cat who just had 5 kittens yesturday (believe me, i'm giving him crap about getting the other 6 months old fixed). He told me that the kittens are not nursing from the mother. Do yall think he means that the mother is not nursing them(probably because of her age) or that te kittens are really sick and not drinking from the mother? i really dont know what I'm dealing with either and just wanted yall's opinions.
btw I dont think he's very educated about cats, thats why I'm not taking his word there..

btw, the mother dropped milk, so the kittens are going to be alright
and their is going to be free spaying and neutering in our area next month, so the mother's siblings will be getting neutered and the original mother.

They sell kitten formula at pet stores and even Walmart. It's rather expensive, and they need to eat every hour or two, round the clock. If Mama isn't taking care of them, someone else will need to do it for her. Also, kittens can't potty on their own. Use a damp cotton ball to "stimulate" their bums so they can poo.
Good luck!

Your friend needs to take the mom and babies into a vet immediately. If mom has not 'dropped' her milk yet the kittens will starve, if she is just too young to know what she is supposed to do, the kittens may starve. Your friend may have alot of work ahead of him, if mom isn't up to doing her job, he will have to feed the kittens until they are old enough to start eating on their own which is usually around 4 weeks of age. He needs to see a vet and get the vet's advice about what he needs to be doing. In the meantime he can try to 'put' the kittens onto mom, by craddling them in one hand and using the other to gently pry open their mouth and place the kitten onto a nipple, if he can gently massage moms belly to help stimulate her milk flow, the kitten should start to nurse. He should also try to check and see if she has milk, squeezing her nipples should produce a couple drops of milk.

Well it sounds like your friend could do with some info. on cats. Well the cat is really young to be having kittens and it is possible that the kittens may be unwell. But because its her first litter, and because she is so young, she might not have any idea what to do with them. It happens a lot on first litters with both cats and dogs. Also if they were handled already, that might be why she dosent want to feed them because she dosent recognize them as her kittens (the smell of human get rubbed on to them)
I hope that Ive been able to help!

Have they been separated for any length of time? from time to time even as cats are aside, even for some days, and inspite of if the mummy cat became once very on the fringe of her kitten, she will be able to ignore about her kitten in an exceptionally short area of time. We had an same situation. We took our kitten to the vet, the position it stayed for some days, and once we presented the kitten back abode, the mummy cat did not note of the fragrance of her kitten and became aggressive. the relationship between both not in any respect did get extra effective. some cats are able to regulate different cats nicely, and some at the instantaneous are not. and frequently it in basic terms takes time for them to re-regulate, and that's only a touch. supply it a short while to work out if the area improves. wish this helps : )

the whole family of kittens needs to be taken to a vet to be checked. whether they are not eating or the mother is not letting them does not matter, they will die if they don't get some kind of nutrients. if you can't get them to vet right now, go to the grocery store and on the pet aisle, get the milk supplement for cats and hand feed them til you can get them looked at.

Sorry to say but the kittens will probably die. Because of the young age of the mother.. Get her fixed right away after the kittens die or when they are weaned. She can get pregeant right away.

That is just so sad. I dont know why people get animals when they dont know the first thing about them. i know its not your fault, (just angry), you might have to do the raising of the kittens and help the kitten out. Just get your knob head friend to get her spayed.
