I have had the same problem...i was a guinea pig for awhile for doctors to try this drug and that drug, with limited success...i thought it couldn't be food, because i would get them after eating so many different things...now i have discovered a couple things: MSG (monosodium glutamate) is a HUGE trigger for migraines for me. Also some of the sulfates, sulfides, nitrates, nitrites they use as preservatives in wine, beer, smoked food, cheese. I have also gotten migraines from Aspartame (the fake sugar in diet sodas) ...some people get them from amines in chocolate (not me, yay!)
Migraines are caused by a vein which runs very close to the optic nerve having a spasm ( the vein can actually contact the optic nerve, which causes the flashing lights commonly called the "aura" right before a headache). the vein constricts, then opens up ( its like when your foot falls asleep, and you stand up and feel the pins and needles-but in this case, your brain fell asleep) If you have cluster headaches (described as a hot poker to the eye), i have heard some people have good results by rebreathing air (like when you hyperventilate, use a paper bag) and others have good results with Oxygen therapy. My favorite treatment of all time is excedrin migraine and dramamine (also most affordable) i have tried feverfew (with ok results), which acts to relax spasms in blood vessels.
I recommend check every thing you eat for msg, aspartame, sulfates, sulfides, nitrates, nitrites... ps i have seen allergic migraines respond well to benadryl

Get to a health food store and buy some feverfew capsules or loos leaf feverfew tea. Take one capsule every day. If you get the tea, steep it in boiling water for 2 minutes, then drink it once or twice a day. It is an herb that works as a preventive, rather than a cure. Occasionally, you can find it on eBay.
There are no side effects - unless you have hayfever or similar allergies that might make you allergic to it. Feverfew is an herb - a plant with a flower - so there is a tiny chance that you could be allergic to it.
It won't help you with a current headache, but it will certainly prevent you from getting so many headaches down the road. Nobody really knows why it works - it just does.

I used to get terrible headaches every day for months with no end in sight. Taking 4 Advil every 2 hours didn't help at all. Tried taking garlic capsules which can be found in the vitamin section of most stores, and never had another headache.

I recently found a cure for my headaches by accident.
I was getting this loud buzzing sound in my head before I got a migraine. I thought this was titinus.
I recently got rid of my old CRT TV and got an LCD flat panel one. I found that within a day my migraines had gone.
It turned out that the TV gives off a buzz at around 15KHZ that most people can't here, but it stimulates the wrong nerves in the ear and if these are affected for a long time then this can cause pain.
I am not saying that's whats causing yours, but try staying away from CRT displays for a while and see if that affects them.

I know how you feel.... and still do to some extent!
My first bit of advice for you, is to go and see a chiropractor. Doctors, hospitals etc. never found anything wrong after scans, X-rays etc. etc..... but the Chiropractor took one look at me and said "your head's not on straight"!!!! Seriously, one of my vertebrae was slightly at an angle and was trapping a nerve at the base of my skull. After a few weeks of light treatment, all sorted! It's quick and painless, and after one consultation (normally free) they'll be able to tell you whether there's anything they can do.
Secondly, if you go to the chiropractor, ask him how you can reduce a headache once you have one. There's a pressure point between the base of the skull and the base of your ears which, when pressed, helps the pain. It doesn't work for everyone, nor for every type of headache, but I've found it excellent! You find the point, press it hard until it hurts like hell - your headache gets ten times worse once you've got the point, but after about ten seconds of pressure you suddenly feel it lifting, it's amazing!
I've found Headex to be excellent (the one in the red packet), but as you correctly say don't take them for every headache as your system then becomes "immune" to them, only for very severe ones.
A pot of tea made with two or three cloves is also one to try - it used to work for me but sadly no longer.
Finally, try lying down in a dark room for half an hour and try to "visualise" your headache. Sounds crazy, but see it as a raging ball of fire, blazing away, then it starts to rain and the fire, over a period of half an hour or so, gradually goes out. Again, doesn't always work but it's definitely worth trying!
First piece of advice... chiropractor. You never know, they may be able to tell you what the problem is within five minutes of seeing you! Good luck and hope this helps!

Hi,
Have you looked at your diet. Do you drink at least 6-8 glasses of water a day. Chocolate, caffeine, lack of water causing dehidration are sometimes causes of headaches as can be dairy products and allergies. Do you get enough sleep and relaxation every day. Are you stressed or depressed? these can be causes too. You might benefit from swimming, yoga and having cranial and body massages as well. Do you have enough fun in your life as well - laughter released feel good chemicals which help the immune system and seratonin levels which keeps you relaxed / happy. Tension headaches can be helped with anti depressants as well but you need to see your GP again.
Have you had your blood pressure checked as well?
Anyway, just thought i would try and help and suggest a few things. Im not a doctor but my partner has headaches alot and these are things that help. Lots of luck to you - hope you find help. Elly x

Headaches main cause is muscles with a contributing factor of insufficient water (which liquor contributes to). Read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies for information on muscles, pain and referred pain.
For now eat 2 bananas per day for the magnesium and potassium that you are low on.
Get a massage - Back, Shoulders including the front, and Neck. You rub or lightly scratch any/everywhere on you head start in your hair you will find tender spots these are trigger points (knots in the muscle) causing the muscle to be tight. Rub these places 6 - 12 strokes per session, up to 6 times per day until they go away

Hi i dont think if taking paracetamol is going to agrevate you head aches they are ment to help them ease off or go away. It sounds like a bad case of eye strain and staying on a computer can cause you to have headaches everyday. If im not careful the computer gives me migranes and i then feel sick etc. If you have regular eye checks then obvoiusly you should be getting new glasses to help with your sight, but even though you wear glasses the computer may still give you headaches. Like if you have a headache now, you are sat at the computer, watching telly can do it. Have you tried wearing sunglasses when your headache appears and did if ease off a little. You may need tinted glasses to stop the glare of the PC and even the glare of everyday light outside. My mum need a tint on here glasses because this is kind of what she was getting.
