Hi, I was on steroids and they totally messed with my hormones and even gave me mild acne (I've never had acne before). Anyway, I had a tiny bump on the side of my nose, and I "popped" it -- and a little thin strand of white pus came out, like a worm. Sorry, gross, I know! Anyway, the next day it was a little bigger (maybe just swollen?), and it hurt REALLY bad when I touched it, so I tried squeezing it again but this time nothing came out. Needless to say, it's bigger now (the 3rd day), and extremely sore. You can't see it, but when I press on the skin it feels hard. Could that just be swelling from squeezing it too much or is it definitely a cyst/nodule? What should I do for it? Do you think it'll get worse? Also, the bump doesn't feel round, it's kind of oblong (i.e. where my fingers were squeezing it). Thanks so much!

Opps! I forgot to add that when I squeeze it now, clear fluid comes out (like water, not thick at all, not yellow, not pus). It's also sore for like a 1/2 inch radius around where it originally was (which is what's making me think it's just sore and swollen from squeezing so damn much).

I've been putting hot compresses and neosporin on it.

Not only do steroids "mess" with hormones they also leave the body more susceptible to infections. What you describe sounds like a basic type of pimple. The white core is what usually blackheads begin with. The head turns black after oxidation. I doubt that it is a nodule. If it doesn't resolve soon or gets more painful, have it checked out by your doc. You can try some hydrogen peroxide on it and the some antibiotic ointment. That should start clearing it up, especially if you can put the ointment on it and cover it overnight.

Sounds like a zit to me. If it was a cyst/nodule you wouldn't be able to squeeze anything out of it because it would be too far underneath the skin. Zits happen on the top layer of the skin, which makes them easy to "pop". And, yes---zits *can* hurt that bad! I've gotten some that even if you just touch it it hurts like hell.

If it doesn't go down in the next few days, get it checked by a doctor.

I wouldn't worry for now. Let it rest for a few days - so stop fondling with it, just apply some medical alcohol to dry the thing up ( English isn't my native tongue, so I don't know how to express it right). If the pain and swelling doesn't get less in a few days, go to your physician and get it checked out.
