All main airports have a website (just google for it) and you can check departure and arrival times.
I had a friend going to Dubai from Birmingham today and was able to check progress of the departure even down to "last call gate 41" before the screen changed to "departed".

Flight arrivals at most British airports are shown on Teletext TV. Just go to the main menu page - travel information, - airport arrivals. They show the same info as in the terminals.

try going to the website of the airport that the plane is flying into,
or even baa.co.uk and follow the links, they usually have a page with arrival times and relevant delays.
