What is Typhus?

I would like to know what it does to the human body for a research paper I have to work on.

Typhus is a disease caused by Rickettsia bacteria. It's transmitted by lice, and has caused lots of epidemics historically. With improved sanitation and the development of a vaccine Typhus is not such a problem anymore.
