Chicken pox, especially in the third trimester, can cause varicella pneumonia in the mother, a potentially life-threatening form of pneumonia. For the embryo/fetus, in the first trimester there is a potential for birth defects, smaller than normal head, eye problems, low birth weight, small limbs and mental retardation. If contracted within 5 days of delivery or 2 days after, there's a risk for disseminated varicella infection in the baby which carries a 25% death rate.

Chicken pox can be very harmful to any adult. It does not affect you as much as a child, but as your child is undeveloped, it could be harmful. You should go to your doctor for advice. And for goodness sake DON'T SCRATCH!!!!!
