My boxer burrows his head in the blankets. He'll be standing but he will be rubbing his head in blankets and couches, especially after he eats. Why does he do that?? Also, he follows me EVERYWHERE. Kitchen, bedroom, living room, even the bathroom. When I leave the house, my boyfriend says he will whine for a few minutes. What is wrong with him?

I have a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, he is my bestest friend and just like your dog, he buries his head in the blankets, he has a ritual of rolling on his back and rocking from side to side each night making very strange noises indeed. The blanket burying thing is just another way of showing satisfaction I reckon. Rubbing their nose and mouth on the blankets ensures some of the aroma is saved for later like when they bury their bones in the garden for later. He is just making his mark on his territory which they reckon is not only the whole yard but the whole house aswell. My dog follows me absolutely everywhere too, when we get dogs they look to us as their own parents - it is also because they are so loyal and want to protect us. They feel it is their duty. If he only whines for a few minutes that is a good thing - we have a rotten dog across the road who whines and whines for hours and hours when he is left, its very insecure indeed. Your dog sounds lovely.

Nothing's wrong with him.

We have a boxer cross who behaves similarly. He buries his head in blankets, the snow, our arms..really any comfortable spot he can find. He just rests there and lets his head be weightless. It's harmless.

We wash his ears once a week, regular vet visits, so we know it's nothing medical. Just a cute habit of his.

As for the whining, ours does the same whenever one of us leaves. He just misses you, but can easily be distracted and snapped out of if with a fun game, toy or snack. They're just caring animals and like to be around you.

Though, I would teach him how to be alone. Make sure you spend some time each day ignoring him and getting him used to the fact that he must entertain himself every now and then. This will make it easier when you have to do your own thing and not need to worry about occupying him as well.

best of luck.

For the head burrowing, I would check his ears and make certain he doesn't have an ear infection. I know this sounds gross, but lift his ear flap and smell his ear as well as look into it. If there is an odor, or the inside of his ear is quite red and hot to the touch, he most likely has an ear infection. A trip to the vet with him is in order. The vet will check and issue an ointment if needed to clear the infection up. The other with him following you round the house and crying when you leave sounds like he has a wee bit of seperation anxiety. Talk with your vet s/he may have some suggestions for that. Good luck

He may feel like he is in competition with the boyfriend and is marking his scent. As far as the whining... HE LOVES YOU. He dosnt want you to leave.
