Probably much the same as a lot of the punk bands around at the time; anger at what surrounded them. In their case it was the whole political situation in N Ireland (see titles such as "Suspect Device" and "Alternative Ulster") and what it brought upon them. Don't think there was any religious element to it though - ISTR reading somewhere that both the Protestant and Catholic faiths were represented in the band, and they managed to get along just fine.
