I wouldn't be attracted to something I believed didn't exist, therefore why are they arguing about nothing?

I'm not saying Atheists shouldn't comment on religious threads... I'm just asking why would you want to? If there's no God what are you arguing about?

They think that they can 'save' us from religion by being condescending, sarcastic and abusive lol (not all of them, just most of those who frequent this section).

The pre-conditions for meaningful, intelligent, and informed debate are an open intellect and knowledge. Some would do well to develop both before they proceed to comment.

As others have pointed out, this question has been asked dozens (if not thousands) of times.

Do some searching and you'll get a greater variety of answers.

I don't "come" to this section; when a question catches my eye, and I want to answer, I do. These questions appear on the Home page, and other pages of this site; not just to people who come to this category.

There have been many questions specifically directed to atheists (some of them not genuine questions, but some have been).

If someone wants to understand what I think and why, why wouldn't I be interested in answering?

As others have pointed out, this site is for asking and answering questions ABOUT (in this category) religion; it isn't only for the religious.

Unfortunately, other peoples' religious interpretations have an impact on atheists' lives. (Look at debates over same-sex marriage or what gets taught in school.) Atheists get witnessed to a lot. Many have come from a religious background and have religious relatives. Many Christians, including here, think they can presume to tell us all what atheists "really" think. Why can't atheists' opinions be expressed? This site is for asking questions about religion and spirituality, not adhering to them.

How can lies, distortion, fiction and wishful thinking become the choice of the people, and the recognised State religion? Why do Christians want to allow fiction to be taught to vulnerable children. Why do Evangelists interfere in third world economies, and introduce lies to the poorly educated. Why does religion have any standing in a society that for all other purposes demands proof and evidence! Why are there Lords Spiritual ? Is the future to be built around Science and co-operation, or dogma and hatred? Why do the religious hierarchy suppress books, music, and alternative philosophical ideas? Why does the Church fear, free-thinkers, socialists, and heretics? Would you have your children educated in logic and reason, or Bible fiction? Why, after years of persecution, does the church still hate Atheists and heretics? Why be indoctrinated , when educated is so much better for society? What was your question?

In order to be a true atheist in the sense you want to wear that label - I would want to be informed about religion. Some Atheists are better informed and more knowledgeable than the people who practice the religion. I like to know about all kinds of races, cultures and creeds, but that doesn't mean I don't have my own identity.

That is not to say that I condone people coming onto others thereads and deliberately be insulting or abusive, but I do think forums should be open to anyone!

Let's begin by revealing that this question has been asked and answered many times.

Now, among those many answers was this one:

This is a public forum in which religion and spirituality are discussed. It being a public forum, any member of the public is invited to comment. Since atheists live in a society in which religion features prominently, it is reasonable that they have opinions on the topic.

There were many other answers, but the one above should suffice.

We're not attracted to God - we don't believe he exists.

We're attracted to the idea of why people still believe in one.

We're not arguing about nothing.

We're arguing about the FACTS vs. faith. We see people living in a delusion bubble where, for example with Christian "science", medicine is not taken and prayer is the alternative. Thus, people die. SO many people have died through religious reasons. It's a HUGE concern. We SHOULD be on this thread. Why are you here? For prayer requests? A lot of good that'll do...

After reviewing all the answers they are really sweet people and should be able to come and taste the water. Some will recognize there is another part to the physical and hopefully will partake of the Spirit world where they will be born again & afresh. Anyone who wishes please do it while you have the chance!!! Ask God for a sign with an open heart He will answer if you're sincere!!!

because it's an open forum. Because we can. Because it doesn't say 'christians only'. (I know you said 'religious' but I'm sure the only valid religion you can imagine is christianity)

Because you exist.
The actions, which are directed by your faith, exist and affect people in the real world.
Let's say you are not a muslim (I have no idea whether you are or not). Do you agree that the beliefs of certain muslims are currently having an enormous impact on our world?
Come on, do you honestly wonder why even non-religious people have, not only curiousity, but a real-world stake in the actions and beliefs of religious people?
