A dodo was a fairly large sized bird native to a particular island in the pacific. It was so passive that sailors landing on the island used to just pick them up and kill them for fun. By the time the scientific community discovered the bird in the 1800s it was extinct. Expressions like "Dumb as a dodo" come from this bird.

Dodo is an extinct bird. It was driven to extinction - directly - by humans. It is the first, verifiable example of humans driving something to extinction - which is why it is considered somewhat important.
Dodos lived on an island with no natural predators. That's why they were easy for hungry sailors to catch. They never learned to run away from people - which is why sometimes you hear "dumb as a dodo"

A Dodo was a type of flightless bird that lived in Mauritus. It became extinct (now no more living as it died out) in the 1600s. It is a (wel)l known 'modern' extinction example.
If you meant the question to mean when somebody says to you "You're a dodo," it means that you are a bit of an idi*t and slightly out of date/old fashioned

Fais dodo....French....means "go to sleep"
If someone is a dodo, a dodo bird is extinct, and they're actually saying that you're way off center.

A bird.
It could not fly, and was usually small in size, about a foot tall. It became extinct in 1887 in Greenland when sailors killed them for food.
