Why does this happen in Microsoft Notepad?

Question

1. Open Notepad
2. type in the top: "bush hides the facts" (without the quotes..)
3. Save it
4. Close it.
5. Open it.
6. You will see changes... lol

I can't figure it out? is it some Security thing or what???

yeah i did that one time too, weird. I don't know why. Probably something some programmer snuck in on XP SP2

It's not actually that specific text that creates this behaviour, it's a bug in Notepad that manifest with almost any similar combination of characters ("this app can break" is another example) and someone's just used that text to make it look like some exciting conspiracy theory when it's nothing of the sort. The reason for it is something do with text encodings, more info here:

You can do this with almost any phrase in this form
xxxx xxx xxx xxxxx
And it's not "bush hides the facts", it's "bush hid the facts"
It causes the text to be displayed in Unicode rather than ASCII
versions of notepad from 95, 98, and ME don't support unicode, so the text appears normal.

Well done you've found another in a long line of random jokes inserted by programmers, Microsoft word was always good for them, Microsoft Excel 97 Actualy has a space invaders style game embedded in it.

It is probably another programmer joke.

lol i just tried it as soon as i saw this question...it turned the letter into little rectangles...LMAO!!...
