Given we had all the right equipment and resources we NEEDED to get the job done, we would stand a better chance than we stand today in AFGHANISTAN !
Also, as long as we didn't have to keep one eye open on our American allies in order to watch our backs, again, we'd stand a much better chance of winning.
Oh, and if we had our own UK built weapons and military software we'd definately stand a much better chance of winning !!
All we need is a Prime Minister with enough balls to tell the Minister of Defence to make sure UK troops had all the equipment and resources they needed, then make sure there was NO political interference once the order was given to go to war.
It would be upto the media then to unite the British people at home into making sure UK Forces were supported, and for that support to filter down to each and every service personnel in the theatre, and to stay the hell away from the theatre themselves except for daily or weekly media briefings given by Military spokesperson in the theatre.
UK Forces are well trained. They know what they are doing - contrary to popular belief. Give the order, then SHUT UP and stay the hell away until the job is completed.
The only thing that is neccessary once the order is given is to make sure there is enough equipment and resources available ready for when it is needed.
Simple as.

Going to war and being "top nation" is not worthwhile considering. The UK should not fight in any war that it does not need to. If there were a third world war, nobody knows what would happen. Would the planet be too poisonous for people to live on? Maybe, I think there would be survivors, but national groups as we know them? The question of winning becomes a little academic, when you consider the possible outcome.

During the cold war it was well known that if a conventional war started the groung troops would ward of the enemy just long enough for the bigwigs bail from the island. The Warsaw pact's navy would do what the U-Boats could not....Strangle the oncomming ships,... and their shipborne planes would shutdown any airfreight comming in.It would take some time for the remaining allies to rally their ships to save the islands bacon again and until then, how's your Russian.Thank goodness this never happened....it was our Nukes they were afraid of,and I do think we would have used them if need be.

That depends greatly upon the resolve of the people to fight, the resources available to conduct the war, and the number of allies that the UK could bring in on its side.

On the basis that the UK has never won a world war on it's own I doubt it would do it now

UK would win any war they fought aslong as they did not fight the USA, the US has the best technology, the best trained forces and we proved we could win twice so no offense to the UK but i do not think that they could be the US but they could demolish everybody else

Be realistic. Another world war would involve nuclear weapons and there will be no winners. Except in Africa.

If there were another world war there would be no winners as our very planet and all that it maintains would be the loser because of the nuclear weapons which would have to be used.

Our forces are the best in the world. Sive for size yes. If we had to fight the Russian or Americans we would win as long as no one used nukes.
